5 CLUB SKATERS PARTICIPATING AT SKATE CANADA CHALLENGE 2018

Skaters from across Canada in Montreal for 2018 Skate Canada Challenge

Over 500 skaters from across Canada are headed to Montreal, Que., for the 2018 Skate Canada Challenge. This year’s event will be taking place from November 29-December 3, 2017, at the Sportplexe Pierrefonds.

Skate Canada Challenge is the sole qualifying event for novice, junior, and senior skaters to earn entries to the 2018 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships taking place in Vancouver, B.C., from January 8-14, 2018. Skaters qualified for the 2018 Skate Canada Challenge by advancing through their local sectional championships.

CPA Saint Laurent is proud to count the following 5 skaters amongst the 24 entries from local Montreal skating clubs who qualified for the 2018 Skate Canada Challenge:

  • Edrian Paul Celestino – Senior Men’s Singles
  • Jason Chan – Junior Ice Dance
  • Jeffrey Wong – Junior Ice Dance
  • Henry Yeran Zhou – Novice Men’s Singles
  • Kenneth Naces – Pre-Novice Men’s Singles

If you wish to cheer them on general admission tickets will be available for purchase at the Sportplexe Pierrefonds throughout the event. All-event tickets are $50, and single-day tickets will be available for purchase for $25. Admission is free for children ages 12 and under.

Saturday December 16, 2017 | 8:30 – 15:00

The Lac St Louis region and the CPA Saint Laurent are proud to present a complete figure skating clinic on Saturday December 16, 2017. The one-day seminar will consist of on-ice time as well as off-ice sessions designed to improve your skating skills no mater what your level or your focus – Free Skate, Ice Dance, Pairs or Synchro. We have seasoned coaching professionals and a star-studded lineup of International competitors.

Target group : STAR 2 to STAR 10, GOLD, all levels of Competitive Skaters, and Coaches

Parents are invited to attend the Parent Information session (nutrition, off-ice training, skating options)

Each skater will receive instruction in the following listed below:

On Ice

Jump Techniques

Spin Techniques

Edges, turns and basic stroking technique

Skills

Off Ice

Stretch and warm up techniques

Nutrition & being an Athlete

Flexibility, enhanced motion and rhythm

 

 

Skaters will be placed according to skill level, an exact schedule and groupings will be sent out closer to the Seminar date.

Facilitators

We are fortunate to welcome International coaches and competitors who have participated in several Junior and Senior World Championships. They have a wide and varied experience in the field of figure skating. They all believe in developing skaters from CANSkate through to the National and International level by implementing strong basics and encouraging hard work.

Daniel Beland:

He was the first Quebec and Canadian figure skater to win the title of Junior World Champion in 1978. This achievement was not repeated until recently in 2014. He is currently working on developing the next generation of skaters who have achieved podium placements at the national and international level.

Shawn Winter:

Currently trains 9 dance teams from pre-novice to senior. These teams are all on a Canadian section team and compete at the national with some at the international level. He has over 25 years of coaching experience and brings a vast array of experience and knowledge.

Mervin Tran:

Represented Canada, Japan and the United States in pairs. He and his former partner won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2012 in Nice.

Mary-Liz Wiley:

Mary Liz Wiley is an NCCP Level 3 Certified. She is also an NCCP Learning Facilitator, a presenter for multiple Sectional and National events, a member of the CanSkate Resource Team and Coach Development Committee. Mary Liz is the Head Coach of the Regional Development Program and Regional Coaching Representative.

Maryse Allard:

B.Sc Kinesiology, Masters of Physical Activity with more than 15 years experience. She specializes in rehabilitation and development of up and coming athletes. She likes to share her passion of training with all. She and her team was selected by Patinage Quebec to lead the C and D development team off ice seminar.

  • Borough issued documents for Low-income families wishing to benefit from a discount. (Fall-Winter session only)
Registrations which have been completed without providing the mandatory documents and a confirmation of the account update will not receive the associated discounts. In accordance with the borough policies, no adjustments will be issued once the registration has been finalized by the account holder.
